This stimulating and inspirational course will cover both the basics as well as the more complex approaches to drawing and painting and how they relate--the two are inextricably intertwined. We will investigate the possibilities of drawing media using a variety of pencils, charcoal and Conte pencils, by doing contour drawings, using value scales and learning how perceive forms in space. These skills plus the use of color will then be transferred to working with paint as a fluid extension of drawing. The class will consist of drawing and painting still lifes, portraits, landscapes, with realistic or more abstract explorations dependent upon personal goals. The aim of this course is to help the student see the world around them in their own unique way and translate that vision into the two-dimentional exploration of canvas and paint. At the first class we will discuss the materials that you will need. (One can be modest or generous with material choices).
